Oshima's record of Mugil kelaartii (Ann. Carnegie Mus., vol. 13,

Nos. 3-4, Ap. 25, 1922, p. 248, Toko, Formosa) is said to have the pectoral nearly long as head and reach the spinous dorsal origin. It is therefore perhaps more likely the present species than Mugil kelaartii Günther.

Mugil olivaceus Day.

Four examples, 108 to 113 mm. Appears to agree largely with Day's description except he describes the pectoral scale as

"short angular

one."

Not previously known from China.

Eyes without adipose lids. Maxillary exposed. Anal with 9 branch- ed rays. Pectoral long as head without snout, reaches first dorsal origin, with pointed scaly flap 2/5 fin length. Scales 33 or 34. Soft dorsal and anal largely scaled basally. Back dull olivaceous gray, sides and below silvery white. Dorsals and caudal grayish, lower fins whitish, and dark neutral gray small spot at pectoral origin.

SCOMBRIDAE.

Scomber japonicus Houttuyn. Fa1 Gaul Yui2 (Flower fish). One example, 110 mm.

CARANGIDAE.

Trachurus trachurus (Linnaeus). Tsel Yui (Pond fish).

One example, 65 mm.

Carangoides malabaricus (Schneider). Chong1 Yui2.

Six examples, 130 to 148 mm. Some show 4 very faint broad transverse gray bands on body, each slightly wider than pale interspaces.

Formio niger (Bloch).

Five examples, 153 to 191 mm.

STROMATEIDAE.

Stromateoides argenteus (Euphrasen). Lap, Yui2.

Text figure 3.

Nineteen specimens, 152 to 140 mm. The largest has evidently had its posterior dorsal and caudal damaged, though the fin rays regenerated.

LEIOGNATHIDAE.

Leiognathus virgatus Fowler. Chong Yui2.

One hundred and fifty-three examples, 41 to 71 mm., most all in poor preservation.

Secutor ruconius (Buchanan-Hamilton).

One example, 50 mm. Secutor insidiator (Bloch).

One example, 46 mm.
